5.5 Communicating with Patients by Electronic Means
Wells Road Medical Centre is mindful that even if patients have provided electronic contact details, they may not be proficient in communicating via electronic means and patient consent needs to be obtained before engaging in electronic communication. Electronic communication includes Email, Facsimile and Short Message Services (SMS).
Communication with patients via electronic means is conducted by appropriate regard to privacy.
Wells Road Medical Centre primary reason for communicating electronically to patients is to issue appointment reminders and recalls and we verify the correct contact details of the patient at the time of the appointment being made.
Wells Road Medical Centre does not communicate with Patients about their medical conditions through email. Unless they request to do so by email.
At Wells Road Medical Centre, we use email for the following:
- Ordering Supplies / Sample Medication
- Sending invoices for accounts
- Receiving requests for medical reports from Work Cover/Insurance Companies.
- Receiving updated health information
- Receiving Patient Complaints – to Practice Manager email
- Patients requesting results or medical certificate to be emailed to them
Wells Road Medical Centre uses an email disclaimer notice on outgoing emails that are affiliated with the Practice stating:
